The Gift of Being Seen
Do you have a friend who you don't see often but when you do, you just pick right back up. This woman always makes me feel like I belong. Which in this lifetime has been the hardest thing for me. Walking into rooms I just don't feel like I should be in. I imagine it's a universal feeling in different ways.
In a world where it is so easy to be overlooked, undervalued or just ignored- having someone who makes you feel accepted is something to be grateful for. I don't think people always realize how their kindness impacts another person. That's what she does. And I don't think it is just for me. It's who she is. Thanks for making me feel like I belong. xx
Scouting Locations for Downtown Austin
I hate to say it but I haven’t blogged since 2020. I took a much needed hiatus to just full time mom (and travel.) Not to say I haven't still taken photos because I have. I will most likely come back to that but this blog post is much more about the coming back part. But really I wanted to take a moment to just say hello
I'm glad to be back.
Let's jump feet first into this awesome city: hey Austin! We have loved experiencing everything that downtown has to offer. Living in a suburb can be great but the energy downtown is so exciting. There are so many cool neighborhoods here and each one has a different vibe. I'd love to have a day where I just shoot in each part and show you all the unique things about each one.
This week we were very obviously on SOCO (South Congress). The 'I love you so much’ sign is always a hit but there are so many cute spots around there that just feel so AUSTIN to me. We also shot some fun stuff on campus at the University of Texas. I love all the stonework there. The parking can be a little tricky on weekends but it's worth it. And another fun favorite is the parking garage with the city in the backdrop. We loved how quiet it was there. We could be as silly as we wanted.
I consider this my first step back and I'm excited to share more fun Austin spots. As you know I love colorful shoots so if you do too: I'm your girl! Don't be shocked if you see lots of film on here too. I shoot lots of Ektar and Kodak Gold or a fun expired film. You can ask questions or just leave a comment below. I love to hear from you.
Shoutout to LJ and Pearl for this fun day too! Love y'all.
Fall Family Sessions in 2020
Since hugging is out in 2020, getting super close is easier with my macros lens. I use it a lot more often. I’ve also been slowing down and shooting more film in 2020. Colorful ektar is becoming a favorite. But this post is about mini sessions. I don’t shoot film for mini sessions because they are quick 15 minute session. You have to get a family (usually some kiddos) to feel comfortable enough for you to stick a camera in their face. There are a few kids who love getting their photo taken but for the most part people don’t love it.
So I always play at least two games and we make that 15-20 minute session go by super fast and super FUN! I have two young girls myself (9 and 6 now) and they sometimes will come along if I know it’ll make a certain kid feel more comfortable too. I have lots of fun tricks to capture their personality (which is my goal!).
Check out all the sweet poses and non poses we did in just 15 minutes! Also I love this family xo!
