tracking tasks
I think its easy to decipher where my time gets eaten up in a unproductive way. SOCIAL MEDIA! Even my own kids could watch youtube toy reviews for hours if I let them. It's ridiculous how time can be stolen from us and later we think man I'm tired... I wasn't present.. and ran out of time! I have plenty of hats to wear around my house and need to FOCUS. I think the reason I love photography so much is because it reminds me to focus on whats important. I get to meet brand new babies, and reminisce about the days of my babies. And meeting families that have so much love pouring out of them, And of course wedding days, the day two people become a family. But geez how do I get some time back in my day?
Tracking my time in business and in life has made a huge difference. Turn off those social media dings in your phone and maybe choose books over tv. Honestly, I'm not anti social media or tv (I love both) I just don't feel refreshed after either. I know it sounds crazy to set time aside for social media or tv but it works. It's like being on a time budget. And I love budgets! Wahoo conquer business and life today! And a glass of wine doesn't hurt either.
(Ps Today's feature is the gorgeous Brady wedding from Thanksgiving weekend!)
the fairytale ball columbus
If you haven't met my two girls, they are Disney obsessed. I think meeting princesses is high on the list of awesome for them. It's so much magic to be able to create moments like that in their childhood too. When I was asked to photograph the princess fairytale ball in Columbus I was obviously so excited! Pretty Princess Parties visited from Minnesota and they rocked Columbus:
Doing event photography is a lot of mixed lighting situations and emotions are high usually. It's comparable to a wedding reception. I love capturing all these lifestyle photos full of joy. The expressions of all the girls was so delightful. How could you not scroll through and love every single one? Try it, you can't. I want to add that you can even spot me in one of the photos with Ariel and my own daughter (we got to attend the last session & she's our absolute favorite). We enjoyed getting to meet all the energetic girls and LOVED all the singing (those girls can sing y'all!)! And if you missed it in COLUMBUS, later in the winter they are doing another fairytale ball in CLEVELAND!
finding light: When your sessions end up indoors
I used to freak out (a lot) anytime I had a client request an indoor session. Let alone having an outdoor session turn into an indoor session last minute. But I don't feel that way at all anymore. I actually really love indoor sessions. They don't have to look "dark" or "moody" because I don't understand artificial light. Once you learn some lighting basics, you can have light & clean indoor style too.
I have one flash on my camera and another off camera flash. Depending on where the natural light is I'll position around the family. I also try to block out the artificial lighting in the room. I think it's practicing too. Once you get your lights, just practice at home in all kinds of rooms. You'll find your style too!
